Whether they had a heads-up or not, when Nicki Minaj and Pitbull unveiled the nominees for the 39th annual American Music Awards on Tuesday (October 11), it was obvious they were both pleased to read the other's name off the list.

Minaj is nominated for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist and Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album, while Pitbull picked up nods for Favorite Latin Music Artist and Favorite Pop or Rock Male Artist. When MTV News caught up with the nominees immediately following the announcement, they weren't shy about their hopes for bringing home the big awards come November 20, when the AMAs air live on ABC.

"It's an honor to be here with the kind of caliber of artists here," Pitbull said of fellow nominees Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars, Enrique Iglesias and Jennifer Lopez. "Me, I come to the awards shows and I just learn, I watch everyone, I see how they handle their performances and hopefully grab a couple things and apply it to my career. So to be here nominated and to also be performing at the AMAs, I want to thank you."

The "Give Me Everything" singer also promised he'll do his best to top his VMA performance when he takes the AMA stage. "That [VMA performance] was definitely a lot of fun. It's hard to get 60 women from Miami on a plane after they were partying the night before and bring that vibe out there," he joked. "But that's definitely what we're looking for: We're looking for a lot of energy, something very sexy, sophisticated, powerful — and get ready."

With regard to Miss Minaj's chances at victory, she's nominated in both categories with Young Money boss Lil Wayne, so we wanted to know if there will be any friendly wagering going on beforehand.

"I don't know. He's won enough," she said with a smile. "He's been winning for 10 years, so he can move to the side and let me win, hopefully."

Who will you be rooting for at the AMAs? Let us know in the comments!

Game Says 'It Was Time' To Propose To His Girlfriend

'You kinda gotta step up and be a family man, and she deserves it,' newly engaged MC tells MTV News.

INGLEWOOD, California — You would never consider rapper the Game "soft," especially on his home turf of Los Angeles. But the MC showed us his vulnerable side by proposing to longtime girlfriend Tiffany Cambridge on Wednesday afternoon (October 12).

Game staged the big surprise at Frank D. Parent Elementary School, where Cambridge works as a teacher. The school's principal even got in on the plan, calling Cambridge to an afterschool "meeting" where Game was waiting anxiously with the couple's two children.

Cambridge arrived with a big look of suspicion on her face to a room full of people. As family, faculty, media and the couple's bishop looked on, Game got down on one knee and said, "I just wanted to ask you: Would you marry me?"

Game's girl immediately answered with, "Oh, yes, Jayceon" (his actual first name), and the two embraced to a cheering crowd.

"I'm just, like, in shock right now, so excuse my expression," Cambridge told the room. "I am the deer-in-a-headlight type of person."

The same could be said for Game. For an artist who exudes confidence, it was rare to see the rapper nervous — well, as much as he would let on. But he admitted prior to popping the question that he was pretty anxious.

"As a man, this is that day where you throw your player card away and you kinda gotta step up and be a family man, and she deserves it," Game told MTV News immediately following the proposal. "It's been a long run, and we've been together at least seven years. We've been off, we've been on, we've been arguing, we fought. We had good times and bad times, and I think that at the end of the day, as a man, this is something that I owed to her and I owed to my family, so it was time."

While the proposal seemed planned to the very last detail, you would be surprised how it all came together.

"The planning was all quick, last minute. I woke up today with a different headspace, and I just started planning this at 10 a.m., and we pulled it off by 2 [p.m.]. Four hours to pull all these media outlets, get the school in line, the principal, the bishop from the church to come down. The sun came out, obviously [I'm] sweating here, crazy."

With Game's success at prepping all these details, he might even get in on the wedding planning himself. Well, maybe.

"No, no, no — I'm gonna stay on the Xbox, I'm gonna play 'Madden,' I'm gonna let her plan it all the way out, and then I'm gonna go overseas and get whatever she needs so she can successfully have the wedding of her life," Game said.

So what's the next step for the engaged couple? "Hopefully a nice dinner and some lovemaking!" Game joked.

This caps a successful couple of months for the rapper, whose R.E.D. Album debuted at #1 in late August.

Share your well-wishes for the newly engaged couple in the comments!

The third day of testimony in the manslaughter trial against former Michael Jackson doctor Conrad Murray once again featured former members of Jackson's staff, bodyguard Alberto Alvarez and chef Kai Chase.

Alvarez took the stand first Thursday (September 29) to describe his arrival on the scene. He claimed when he entered the room, he saw Murray performing chest compressions on Jackson with one hand, and that when Murray heard Alvarez enter, he made the frantic request for Alvarez to remove several vials of propofol -- the potent anesthetic that was part of the official cause of Jackson's death -- from the room before he called for an ambulance.

Jackson's former personal chef was next to testify. After going through a list of the food items she prepared regularly for MJ and his children, mostly healthy meals like granola with almond milk and juice blends, Chase revealed that on the day of Jackson's death, she was in the middle of preparing his lunch when a worried and panic-stricken Murray burst into the kitchen and shouted for her to "get help, get [son] Prince and get security." Chase said she "did as she was told" and went into the den to alert Prince and that she did her best to keep the children calm.

Testimony is set to resume again Friday at 8:45 a.m. PT. Murray has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and administering the dose of propofol that caused Jackson's death and faces four years in prison and the loss of his medical license if found guilty.

Bethenny Frankel Boating Story: Did She Make It Up?

Bethenny Frankel Boating Story: Did She Make It Up?

In September, reality star Bethenny Frankel took a day trip on a sailboat and ended up lost at sea for 20 harrowing hours. Or did she? A skeptical journalist contacted the man who towed Frankel's boat back to harbor -- and heard a different version of events than the one Frankel told to the press.

The way the Bethenny Ever After star tells the story, she was sailing with her husband Jason Hoppy, her therapist and a Bravo camera crew when the boat was thrown off course by a big wave. The boat's GPS was malfunctioning, explained Frankel, so they drifted for hours without knowing their location before finally being rescued by the Coast Guard at 4 a.m. On Twitter, she called the experience "the worst night of my life" and said she kissed the ground upon returning.

But the guy who "rescued" Frankel remembers things differently. In a conversation with the Jewish Journal, boat captain Tim Russell explained that the GPS system on Frankel's ship was working, because he was able to find the exact coordinates when they rang him up.

Mr. Russell, incidentally, does not work for the Coast Guard, but a private tow company. The Jewish Journal confirmed that Frankel called the Coast Guard first, but that they refused to come get the ship because it wasn't actually in any danger. Russell, too, told Frankel's therapist that he wasn't sure why they were calling him, but he agreed to come out at 5 a.m. and lead (not tow) the functional boat back to shore. He also says that Frankel didn't tip him, seeing as he doesn't work for tips. (On The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Frankel claimed that she tipped the rescuing captain $2,800.) And he says that Frankel did kiss the dock when they arrived -- but not until the cameras were rolling.

Bethenny, however, is sticking to her story. On Twitter, she listed the claim as one of "last week's idiocies," along with reports that she's pregnant, getting divorced and hiring a "nice" coach. She tweeted that the alternate version of her boat trip story was fabricated by people who are "nuts and bored."

"I wish that boat trip were fiction rather than the nightmare it actually was," she tells E! Online. "My truth is stranger than fiction."

Whose version of the story is true? The reporter at the Jewish Journal freely admits to having a vendetta against Frankel, whom she believes to be a pathological liar. And yet the boat captain, Tim Russell, has no such vendetta; he told his version of the story to the press only when contacted, and didn't have any malice against the reality star.

Here's a theory: What if Frankel exaggerated the events of the boat trip without even realizing it? Reality stars are paid to ratchet up the drama, and Bethenny has been followed around by a camera crew for years now. Maybe a momentary panic attack got blown up into a near-death experience because she sensed it would make good TV. Or maybe she really did think the GPS was broken, and misunderstood what happened with the Coast Guard and the towing service. Only the Bravo camera crew knows the truth -- and we'll get to see their version when Frankel's reality show returns for its third season.

'Wolverine' R Rating Not 'Off The Table,' Hugh Jackman Says

'There is even talk about us doing two versions,' actor tells MTV News.

After months of delayed start dates and a change of directors, the best thing Wolverine fans have going for them is a star who is just as eager to get the man with the adamantium claws back on the screen.

Hugh Jackman stopped by MTV News and gave an update on "The Wolverine," its potential R rating, whether any familiar faces from the Marvel Universe would show up and a new hint about the setting. As of now, the darker follow-up to 2009's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" has a director in James Mangold but no definite start date.

So what should fans expect from "The Wolverine" once filming begins in Japan? First of all, there will be more locations. "Not all of it takes place in Japan. That's my other little tip for you," Jackman told MTV News' Josh Horowitz. Japan, up until now, had been a focal point for the concept of the film, which centers on Logan's encounters with samurai. How Wolverine's native Canada plays into the equation is yet to be seen.

Any talk of taking the franchise "darker" is going to welcome the follow-up question, "Well, how dark?" In the case of "The Wolverine," many older fans have held on to the hope of a more realistic, R-rated sequel, as sharp objects like adamantium claws tend to result in blood. "There's such great temptation to make an R-rated 'Wolverine.' I've always felt that, and I know a lot of fans would like that," Jackman said. "If there's ever going to be a superhero that is going to be R-rated, it's going to be Wolverine."

And while an R rating isn't "off the table," there are considerations to be made, specifically the character's younger fans. "You see it in their eyes. He's everything to them," said Jackman, who's concerned with alienating those fans with an R-rated film. "You need to have a really good reason to exclude those fans."

In the meantime, Jackman and Mangold may have come up with one possible solution to their rating dilemma. "There is even talk about us doing two versions, as in finding a way to do both while you shoot it, which could be really cool."

With Wolverine, there is always the unique question of the X-Men timeline and who might show up to the party, because the ageless mutant can more or less pop up in any era since the beginning of the 19th century. Jackson was less talkative on the subject of whether we'd see some familiar faces, but suggested that most of the cast would be filled with new characters, possibly leaving room for a cameo or two.

Ever since "3:10 to Yuma" director James Mangold stepped in to replace Darren Aronofsky, the biggest obstacle has been Jackman's starring role opposite Russell Crowe in Tom Hooper's "Les Misérables." Jackman recently told reporters that "The Wolverine" would immediately follow "Les Misérables" as his next movie, so the waiting may soon be over.

Check out everything we've got on "The Wolverine."
