Ashton Kutcher's Path From 'That '70s Show' To 'Two And A Half Men'

Following the news that Kutcher is replacing Charlie Sheen in the hit sitcom, we take a look at the actor's successful career.

In the MTV Newsroom, we tend to think of Ashton Kutcher as one our own. Maybe it's because he launched "Punk'd" on MTV back in 2003. Or maybe because reruns of "That '70s Show" still air daily on the channel. Whatever the case, we were happy to learn Kutcher will be returning to the small screen for a role on "Two and a Half Men" — airing on CBS, like MTV, a Viacom-owned property — replacing Charlie Sheen after that actor's epic flameout.

Kutcher's move back to TV marks yet another unpredictable choice in a career defined by them. Back in 2003, for example, he was almost cast as Superman in director Brett Ratner's big-screen adaptation of the superhero story. As Kutcher would tell us years later with a laugh, "It did not feel right. I hadn't worked out or done anything right. ... I was like a rail with fake muscles. It looked funny."

Other movie projects worked out better. "Dude, Where's My Car?" performed modestly at the box office but became something of a cult hit on home video and cable. In 2003, Kutcher starred in "My Boss' Daughter" opposite Tara Reid and in "Just Married" with Brittany Murphy, with whom he eventually struck up a relationship. "I learn something from that girl every day," he told us at the time. "She makes me smile every day. She shows me something about my job every day. She's the best, man. I'll do anything with her, any movie, hands down."

That same year, Cameron Crowe cast Kutcher in "Elizabethtown," his highly anticipated follow-up to "Almost Famous" and "Vanilla Sky." Crowe, however, eventually recast the part and hired Orlando Bloom. No matter, as Kutcher's time-travel drama, "The Butterfly Effect," topped the box office early in January. And he stepped into voice acting for the animated tale "Open Season," another #1 hit at the box office.

By that point, Kutcher had already tied the knot with Demi Moore. But married life didn't change the goofy essence of who he is, as we found out during a 2008 press day for "What Happens in Vegas ..." "When you're in bed, and you're married to someone, don't fart under the covers and trap her under the covers, because she gets pissed," he cracked.

In 2010, Kutcher went on to star in the ensemble romantic comedy "Valentine's Day" — another #1 hit and another opportunity to expand on his relationship philosophy. "I really, really do believe the only way you're really going to catch somebody off-guard on Valentine's Day is when they're waking up," he explained. "By waiting till the end of the day, now you have to compete with what everyone else has done throughout the day."

That's some good advice ... as was the knowledge he kicked to us days before the 2010 MTV Movie Awards. "How does Robert Pattinson not win every award ever invented?" Kutcher asked us, adding, "Like, I almost got up onstage this year at the Grammys when he didn't win and almost kicked Taylor Swift off. Because I'm like, 'What's up? Robert Pattinson should have won this.' "

More rom-coms followed, first alongside Katherine Heigl in 2010's "Killers," and then opposite Natalie Portman in "No Strings Attached," which opened at #1 earlier this year. Before the "Two and a Half Men" news broke, Kutcher had already lined up a number of new film projects, including the ensemble comedy "New Year's Eve" to a potential collaboration with Justin Bieber called "What Would Kenny Do?"

Through it all, though, Kutcher has never forgotten his MTV roots. As we found out, the guy is a huge fan of "Jersey Shore." "I was on the 'Jersey Shore' bandwagon really early," Kutcher revealed in January. "A good friend of mine started showing me all these pictures of all these guidos online, and then she was like, 'Oh my God, you have to see this show,' and so I started watching. I'm a huge fan of the show. I haven't missed an episode."

Justin Bieber, Chris Brown Set To Shoot 'Next 2 You' Video

Scooter Braun, Biebs' manager, teases 'crazy' clip from F.A.M.E.

Chris Brown recently took the stage with Justin Bieber during the Biebs' tour stop in Australia, where they performed "Up," and now the two will begin work on a video for Brown's F.A.M.E. track "Next 2 You."

Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun, confirmed the video plans on Twitter. "NP- #Next2You w/ @justinbieber and @chrisbrown - video treatment is crazy ... yeah it's coming!!" he wrote.

With little known about what these two have in store for fans, MTV News spoke to Brown in March about working with the teen star on the track. "Being able to collab with [Bieber] was great," Brown said. "He's a young, energetic cat, so being able to work with him, with the fanbase he has, was incredible. I know a lot of little girls are going to love this record.

"I wouldn't say [he's] my protégé. He's doing his thing at a young age, and I was doing mine at a young age, so being able to see him come up is dope."

The midtempo ballad is about the power of love and making the pledge to spend your life with that special someone. The chorus says, "One day when the sky is fallin'/ I'll be standing right next to you, right next to you/ Nothing will ever come between us/ 'Cause I'll be standing right next to you, right next to you."

While it's a feel-good track, Brown joked that when recording the song, he missed his chance to hit the studio with Bieber. "I actually stood him up on accident," Brown recalled. "He was kind of mad ... I was all the way on the other side of town handling some business, 'girl business,' and I was rushing back, and by that time, he's like, 'Man, I'm leaving, bro. I did it — just check it out.' And I looked at it and listened to it and I was like, 'Man, this is crazy.' ... He's a great kid."

Heidi Montag on Plastic Surgery: I'm "Definitely" Done

Heidi Montag on Plastic Surgery: I'm "Definitely" Done

Finally, Heidi Montag has realized that she's had enough plastic surgery for one lifetime. The 24-year-old reality starlet tells Us Weekly that she's not planning to add to her 12-plus cosmetic surgery procedures anytime soon.

"Obviously when I get a little older, I'll take it from there," Montag says, "but for this moment, I don't want anything to do with plastic surgery!" Does that really mean she won't be adding to the very long list of procedures -- including a breast augmentation, nose job, chin job, eyebrow lift, cheekbone job (yes, there's such a thing) and fat injections -- that she's already received? "Definitely," Montag insists. "For now."

That's not the only change that Montag is making in her life. After years of her television life being inseparable from her real life -- specifically her on-again-off-again relationship with husband Spencer Pratt -- the former Hills star says she's working on keeping some things out of the spotlight.

"From now on, I'm going to keep my life a little more private," Montag tells People. "I think I was just doing The Hills for so long and I just needed a break (from Hollywood). Plus, I enjoy my privacy."

To that end, Montag refused to give the magazine any updates on her relationship with Pratt or her historically rocky relationship with her mother, saying only that "everything's good."

Then again, Montag defines privacy a little differently than the rest of us: She'll soon be starring in VH1's new reality show Famous Food, in which she and other reality pros (including The Bachelor's Jake Pavelka and The Real Housewives of New Jersey's Danielle Staub) open a restaurant together. If you live in L.A. and want a shot at being waited on by Montag, the restaurant is reportedly taking reservations!

Rumors abounded in recent days that Justin Bieber would be canceling a scheduled Australian gig because of a back injury. Not only did Bieber not cancel his Thursday (April 28) show in Sydney, he even brought a special guest to the gig.

"I don't cancel ... In route to Sydney!! THE SHOW IS ON!! I don't let my fans down! LEGGO!! #myworldtour," he wrote on Twitter before the gig. "Sydney ... Leggo! #myworldtour"

Hours later, Bieber and his crew revealed to fans who couldn't be at the show that his "Up" remix partner, Chris Brown, had taken the stage with him Down Under. "@JustinBieber and @ChrisBrown just tore the stage down. INSANE. #MyWorldTour," music video director and Bieber insider Alfredo Flores tweeted. Fans then began to weigh in on the pairing, causing Bieber to retweet their kind praise for the performance.

"I feel bad for that stage cause I just heard @justinbieber & @chrisbrown just killed the stage! LOOK AT ME NOW!" AlexisDanielle6 wrote.

Another Belieber, annargh, added, "@JustinBieber that was the most amazing concert I've ever been to! You are so talented! THANK YOU FOR SHARING IT WITH US."

Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun, even tweeted a picture of the two performing together, writing, "Look At Them Now! @justinbieber and @chrisbrown 2nite in SYDNEY ... KILL'T IT!"

Bieber obviously had the final say, writing, "And they thought we might cancel tonight. Look at Me Now! I love Australia! #SWAG."

According to a report in The Daily Telegraph, the crowd of nearly 16,000 girls went mad as Bieber played on the latest stop on his My World tour at the Acer Arena. "By the time the countdown clock announced the arrival of the 17-year-old superstar, you would have thought these over-excited, sugar-fueled kids would be ready to relax and enjoy the show," the review noted. "Nope, they blew the decibel reader into the red — reaching 110 decibels between songs — the equivalent of a chainsaw. Ear plugs were a matter of survival."

What Is Lady Gaga Like? 'Judas' Co-Stars Weigh In!

'Gaga's a super cool girl from New York,' Norman Reedus tells MTV News.

Lady Gaga is many things to many people. She's a pop star, a fashionista and a voice for those who feel they can't speak for themselves. In her video for "Judas," she took on a new role: Mary Magdalene. MTV News caught up with both Judas (Norman Reedus) and Jesus (Rick Gonzalez) from the clip, and they shared what Gaga is really like to work with.

"Gaga's a super cool girl from New York," Reedus said. "She's religious; she does prayers. We have some mutual friends, I think. She says prayers with her people before she goes out onstage, I've heard, and she's very much a group player. And she's not weird at all. She's actually an artist who believes in what she's doing and really takes the bull by the horns and is not afraid to say what she wants to say."

His "Judas" co-star, Gonzalez, said that a lot of her coolness is reflected in her partnership with creative director Laurieann Gibson. "When I first met [Gaga], she was very passionate and very driven. I was really impressed and found a newfound respect for her, because she's such a hardworking woman and so dedicated and very creative," Gonzalez said. "And her, with Laurieann, they make such a great team together.

"I think you're going to see a lot more amazing things with them, 'cause they totally have this synergy," he continued. "And I've overheard them say it: They're totally going to do a lot more things together. So I'm excited to see what that's stuff going to be. ... It's really impressive."

While a lot of the time Gaga seems to offend someone with what she's doing, Reedus said that's not her intention.

"She's cool enough where she's just not trying to offend people to offend people. I mean, who does that? She's actually super talented and she's a machine," Reedus said. "That girl works really, really hard. ... I felt sort of lazy around her. It was kind of inspiring."

What's your impression of Gaga? Let us know in the comments!
