Beyonce's 'Run The World (Girls)' Video: Fans Sound Off!

After video's 'American Idol' premiere, B's fans say it 'looks fabulous,' compare her to Lady Gaga.

On Wednesday night during "American Idol" (and then on her official website), Beyoncé premiered her new video for "Run the World (Girls)": an eye-popping, hip-displacing clip full of haute couture costuming, daring dance steps and even a little geocentric gender-politicking.

Of course, most of that is nothing new for a Bey video: But what is new about "Run the World," both the song and the video, is the brash new edge she's displaying. Over Major Lazer's rattling "Pon de Floor," Beyoncé gets hard, proudly proclaiming that it's the girls who are really running things. And the video doesn't pull any punches, either. She's never strutted or preened the way she does here. And, the dance moves: Well, let's just say she probably had her chiropractor on speed-dial following the shoot.

As is often the case when a beloved artist pushes the envelope, reaction to "Run the World" has been mixed. Some fans praise her new direction, while others are a bit mystified. At the same time, some didn't think the song or the video went far enough. And then there are the complaints about the video's choreography (not hot enough!) and the comparisons to Lady Gaga (they're wearing similar shoes!).

In fact, the debate has gotten so fierce that we decided to spotlight some of it. Below are comments by B's fans and critics, both of whom couldn't wait to weigh in on her new song, video and attitude. And if you still haven't added your two cents, you can do so in the comments below.

"I am a die-hard Beyoncé fan, I really like her as a person and for the artist she is, but this song really SUCKS. Beyoncé can do way better than this. Still really lookin' forward to the new album but I hope that the songs are better than that one." — Rikira

"People aren't accepting of this song because it's not a typical pop song arrangement. Everyone is so used to everything sounding the same on the radio, so Bey brings something different and people aren't feeling it? Just wait until she performs it live. You know that if she performs this at the VMA's this WILL be the most highly anticipated performance and WILL be the best one of the night." — StunnaSton7

"Looks fabulous, but what Bey video doesn't? It seems kind of safe though, she could've pushed the envelope much further. It's written here that it was supposed to be post-apocalyptic ... the outfits should have been more tattered. No glamour, no accessories, just dramatic makeup. An AK-47 or bazooka would've sufficed for Bey herself to hold and work with." — BackdraftBelle

"What in the world? Beyoncé has officially lost it. She kind of reminds me of Lady Gaga ... She has changed tremendously." — Chanel Glover

"I don't understand why people HATE so much. This video is awesome, she came back hard despite not having a good reception for the single.

Stop with the comparisons she is the QUEEN." — Tayvion Meadows

"Choreography is much weaker than I expected. Predictable." — James Barnette

"I love you B, but the Sean Bankhead production put your video to sleep." — Amber Barrons

"I'm def a Bey fan, but was not a fan of this song ... until now. I love the video, and will def be working out some of these moves this weekend at party near you!" — Brandi Wood

"Definitely a disappointment from Beyoncé ... [both the] song and video. Plus I believe it's a slap in the face to Major Lazer!" — Mattie Brown

"I don't know about anyone else, but I actually get symbolism in the video, and I love the song. Complete departure from anything else that's happening on the radio at the moment in terms of pop. I love her and she runs it." — Pearl Sakoane

Katie Couric Signs Off CBS Evening News

Katie Couric's final night behind the CBS Evening News anchor desk unfolded like most others. For the majority of Thursday's show, there was no mention that her historic role -- as the first woman to (solely) anchor a national news show -- was coming to an end. That is, until the last five minutes.

Watch the video below to see Couric, 54, sign off for the last time, with a five-minute retrospective of her five-year stint at CBS thrown in for good measure.

"It's been an extraordinary privilege to sit in this chair, and a real honor to work with so many talented people at CBS News," Couric said in introducing the five-minute highlight reel. And when it was over, she said her last goodbye from the anchor chair. "And to all of you watching, thank you so much for coming along with me on this incredible journey," she concluded. "That's the CBS Evening News for tonight. I'm Katie Couric. Goodnight."

Watching the clips of her war-zone interviews, her investigative reporting and the tough questions she threw at high-ranking political leaders, it's discouraging to recall that ratings plummeted during Couric's time at CBS. Despite  high-profile interviews with people like Valerie Plame, Alex Rodriquez and President Barack Obama, as well as that infamous interview with Sarah Palin, she never attracted the viewership she enjoyed while on Today.

Obviously, on that show, she covered a broader spectrum of stories, many of them fluffy ones. Her decision to join CBS Evening News, and focus on serious and hard-hitting news, cost her scores of viewers. The show's executive producer, Rick Kaplan, recognized that stories like the Afghanistan war aren't ratings-grabbers, but covering such issues was important and worth the effort. And despite the hit her reputation took, Couric clearly jumped in with both feet. She proved she could be a serious journalist, and hold her own in a position previously occupied only by men. Sadly, her good work wasn't rewarded with ratings.

But Couric's career is hardly over. While reporter Scott Pelley will take over her anchor spot, rumor has it that Couric close to signing a deal with ABC for an afternoon talk show -- one that might even reunite her with her former Today co-anchor Matt Lauer. Stay tuned for more news on this front...

Arnold Schwarzenegger's Movie Return Put on Hold

Arnold Schwarzenegger's Movie Return Put on Hold

It looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger won't be stepping back into his Terminator suit anytime soon.

The actor-turned-politician, 63, had made plans to jumpstart his movie career by making another Terminator film. But now, it seems he has too much on his mind (like his public love-child scandal and shocking split from Maria Shriver) to focus on acting.

"At the request of Arnold Schwarzenegger we asked Creative Artists Agency to inform all his motion picture projects currently underway or being negotiated to stop planning until further notice," the former governor's attorney told Us Weekly.

"Governor Schwarzenegger is focusing on personal matters and is not willing to commit to any production schedules or timelines. This includes Cry Macho, The Terminator franchise and other projects under consideration. We will resume discussions when Governor Schwarzenegger decides."

Probably not a bad idea, since he's got plenty of real-life damage control to do. As the news broke this week that Schwarzenegger had an affair with a former housekeeper, which resulted in a son, he released a statement expressing his remorse for hurting his loved ones.

"I fully deserve these feelings of anger and disappointment of friends and family. I have no excuse and I take full responsibility," he lamented. "I ask that the media to respect my wife and children in this extremely difficult period. I deserve your attention and criticism, but my family does not deserve this."

According to reports, Shriver has hired a high-powered divorce lawyer, which leads us to believe Schwarzenegger's problems are just beginning.

Them Crooked Vultures make their debut with a post-Lollapalooza set.
By James Montgomery

Officially, Lollapalooza ended Sunday night in Chicago's Grant Park, with dueling sets from the Killers and Jane's Addiction. Unofficially, it ended very early Monday morning, across town at venerable rock club the Metro, with a surprise show by Them Crooked Vultures.

To the unfamiliar, the Vultures might seem like an odd choice to close out Lolla weekend ... until you realize that they're made up of Foo Fighters frontman/ former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, Queens of the Stone Age mastermind Josh Homme and Led Zeppelin legend John Paul Jones. And their gig at the Metro was their world premiere.

According to some reports, the Vultures actually turned down Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell's request to replace the Beastie Boys as headliners at the festival, opting to debut in front of some 1,100 super-psyched fans at the Metro, rather than 75,000 in Grant Park (tickets for the gig were announced via Foo Fighter/ QOTSA fan clubs). Meaning that, in a lot of ways, this was the most sought-after ticket in town.

Taking the stage just after midnight, the Vultures — Grohl on drums (of course), Homme on guitar and vocals, Jones on bass and keys and frequent QOTSA contributor Alain Johannes on guitar — ripped through 12 songs in 80 minutes, all taken from their upcoming debut, which may or may not be called Never Deserved the Future, and may or may not be hitting stores on October 23 (early "promo" videos touting both those facts were revealed over the weekend to be hoaxes perpetrated by QOTSA fans).

The songs, with appropriately Homme-ian titles like "Scumbag Blues," "Mind Eraser (No Chaser)," "Caligulove" and "Interlude w/Ludes," sounded pretty much how you'd expect, given the band's pedigree. They rocked, hard — Chicago Tribune critic Greg Kot described them as "fresh, invigorating and just plain nasty" — delving off into psychedelic, reverb-filled excursions and exploring proggy territory, "both of the old-school Yes variety, and the more modern Tool flavor," according to the Chicago Sun-Times' Jim DeRogatis.

It's not known if Monday's Metro performance was a one-off event for the Vultures — there have been whispers of a full-blown tour, but a spokesperson for Homme had not responded to MTV News' request for comment at press time. Nor was it clear whether or not they'll have an album out in October.

Early Monday, a Crooked Vultures Twitter account, which had previously posted links to the band's official-looking Web site and the Metro's online ticketing site — posted a link to what appears to be the group's first bit of official merchandise: a Deserve the Future T-shirt. Cost: $30.

Eminem Says He Has Acting Gigs 'In The Works'

Film projects have to be 'dope enough' to make him want to put down the mic, rapper tells MTV's 'RapFix Live.'
By Alvin Blanco

If Eminem is going to leave the studio for an acting gig, it better be a winner. When Eminem appeared on MTV's "RapFix Live", the elusive Detroit rapper revealed that there are film roles he is currently considering. In the "Pass the Mic" portion of the show, Havoc of Mobb Deep asked the Shady Records founder, "When's your next movie?"

"There are some things in the [works], a couple of scripts," Eminem answered. "I guess it's more so of just waiting now to see how they come together. Obviously it's gotta be something that I feel is dope enough to make me want to say, 'OK, let me put the mic down for a second and go do this movie.' There are some things that are in the works. I guess we'll just see how they come together."

According to Em, rapping and acting have some things in common. "I think Ice Cube said this one time, that if you can rap and you can perform to the camera for singing and things like that in videos, it should be a fairly natural transition," Em said. "I know that everybody can't do it, it's not for everybody. But I did hear him say a lot of times it should be easy because they kind of coincide. You're used to doing that."

Since getting raves for his portrayal of Jimmy "B-Rabbit" Smith in "8 Mile," a movie loosely based on his own life, Em's acting résumé has been rather limited. He's only made cameos in HBO's "Entourage" and the film "Funny People" since. It appears that besides the fact that he's been focusing on his music, Em's respect for the acting craft is part of the reason he hasn't completely jumped into Hollywood.

"Making that transition I felt like, 'Oh, this might be fairly easy,' and it wasn't," Em said. "It's a whole different thing because you may be used to performing to the camera and you may be used to doing certain things in videos and things like that, but it's a whole different ballgame when the music is off and you have lines that you need to say. Remembering the lines and trying to be natural and what am I going to do when I say this line, it's different. It takes a minute to get used to."

Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian Talk Drama

Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian Talk Drama

From giving birth to getting waxed, the Kardashian sisters have pretty much bared it all for the cameras. For the past five years, Kourtney, Kim and Khloe Kardashian have shared their lives -- the good, the bad and the hilarious -- with the world on their multiple reality shows. In fact, Khloe (whose new E!  show Khloe & Lamar delves into her life as a newlywed with NBA star Lamar Odom) admits she'd do pretty much anything on camera -- except have sex!

iVillage caught up with Kourtney, 32, and Khloe, 26, at the John Frieda mobile hair salon in New York City's Times Square recently to dish about their most embarrassing onscreen moments, their beauty secrets and why Khloe and Lamar's relationship is sometimes too cute. (Just ask Rihanna!)

You're both pretty open on your reality shows. Is there anything you won’t do on camera?

Khloe: Just me having sex. That’s pretty much it. Everything else pretty much goes! I mean, we’ve done it for so long and our shows are pure reality. We give you 7 days a week -- minimum of 12, max of 18 hours a day -- for three to four months at a time. There’s not much room to hold anything back.

So, there's no scripted drama?

Khloe: We’re brothers and sisters and family, and we live together so there’s no need for all that. There's already so much drama happening between us as a family.

Are you ever embarrassed after watching the show?

Kourtney: Not really. It’s just weird when I meet people, and I forget that they’ve seen so much of my life. They’ve seen me give birth and they’ve seen me crying and they’ve seen me fighting with this person or that person. I just meet people as if they don’t know anything about me, and it’s just weird if I think of that.
Khloe: (The most embarrassing thing I've done on camera was) probably my (bikini) waxing -- when Kourtney waxed me. Like, why the hell would you do that on camera?
Kourt: Because it’s fun!
Khloe: But I never sit and think "X amount of viewers are watching the show." When you’re filming it’s not a big deal, but when you’re watching you’re like,  "Oh my god, I can’t believe that many people are going to watch me get a bikini wax."

Khloe, you and Lamar are so cute on your show. What did you think when your pal Rihanna jokingly tweeted that you guys make her want to barf?

Kourtney: She did?
Khloe: Yeah, I think she tweeted, "You guys really make me want to barf." And she went on Ryan Seacrest and they talked about it. She was like, "They’re just too freaking cute that I hate them."

Kourtney, do you ever feel that way when you’re around them?

Kourtney: No, I feel like I literally have seen Lamar for maybe ten minutes of my life. Whenever I see Khloe she’s alone.
Khloe: It’s because he’s always in season and Kourtney never goes to a game because she won’t bring (her 1-year-old son) Mason.
Kourtney: We’ve talked on the phone more than we’ve seen each other.

Khloe, is it ever hard for you and Lamar to have alone time with Rob living in your house?

Khloe: It used to definitely be. We were newly married and Rob just moved in, and he had no boundaries. But now Robert really gets it. But Jamie, Lamar’s best friend (who appears on Khloe & Lamar), is more annoying than anything. I’m like "Oh my God, get a f**king life … boundaries! You’re 32 years old. How do you not know to get away from me?" He annoys me more than Rob right now. Robert is 24 but he gets it. He’s learned that we need our quiet time. Jamie is like a leech; he just sits there and sucks on our skin.

You two are here for the John Frieda Salon Tour to show your fans how you get your hair looking so great. So, which of the sisters takes the longest to get ready?

Kourtney: It’s Kim. I’m the shortest. When I start adding up the amount of time it takes to get ready -- and then I times it by seven and then I times it by 52 -- it freaks me out. I just have a crazy mental problem, and I’m like “You have to live your life. You can’t just sit and get your hair and makeup done!" And with Mason, too, I just like easy hair and makeup.
Khloe: Kim is a perfectionist, so when she gets her hair done she needs every piece and strand to be perfect. But she loves it. I get annoyed sitting there and I get antsy, but I take longer than Kourt. Kourt will be like "Thirty minutes, that’s all you have. Figure it out." And she’ll really leave. If they’re not finished, she’ll be like "I’m done!"

Have you picked up tips to do your hair faster?
Kourtney: When I’m just by myself and I’m not doing anything I just take a shower, brush my hair, and let it dry. But if I’m trying to do it, I try and slick it up into a bun. And then John Frieda actually has this wand, Full Repair Flyaway Tamer, and it’s to help get your little extra pieces that maybe didn’t get into your hair. That's so helpful for me.

You're both really into hair and fashion. Would you rather shave your head or give up your whole wardrobe?
Kourtney: I would say give up my wardrobe.
Khloe: Shave my head. I could wear a wig!
