Now that the TV season has come to a close, this year's Emmy nominating committee is currently deciding which shows and stars to honor in September. The contenders will be announced on July 14 -- but, in the meantime, there's a new awards show in town: the inaugural Critics' Choice Television Awards, to be doled out by the Broadcast Television Journalists Association on June 20.
Modern Family earned the most nods with six (including one for Ed O'Neill, who was overlooked at last year's Emmys), while awards-show darling Mad Men led all dramas with five nominations. But some new, underappreciated shows got some much needed loving, too.
FX's Justified is up for four awards, including best drama and best actor (for Timothy Olyphant). Throughout its two seasons (it was just picked up for a third), critics have raved over the show about a U.S. Marshal with an unorthodox enforcement style. AMC's thriller The Killing also scored three nominations, as did Fox's clever (but ratings-challenged) Fringe.
And it's gratifying (though not surprising) to see NBC's Community and Parks and Recreation earning three nods apiece. Critics love these shows, and their support has probably helped them stay on air despite their sometimes lagging ratings.
A few other obvious nominees were CBS' The Good Wife (and its star, Julianna Margulies), and HBO's Boardwalk Empire, both of which will no doubt have a place at the Emmy table, too.
The awards will be handed out at the Beverly Hills Hotel, and hosted by So You Think You Can Dance host Cat Deeley (who was also nominated for best reality show host). Click here for a full list of nominees.
The Critics Choice Television Awards will be streamed live at VH1.com when they are presented on June 20, and will air on ReelzChannel on June 22 at 8 p.m. ET. Let's hope Emmy voters are watching... and taking notes.

A trio of Pretty Little Liars came out for the MTV Movie Awards this year.
Shay Mitchell, Ashley Benson and Troian Bellisario - all of whom star on the ABC Family hit, which premieres season two on June 14 - posed for photographers on the red carpet of this event last night, decked out in contrasting outfits.
Mitchell went glittery, Benson went strapless and Bellisario went fancy. Compare the looks now and vote on which is prettiest:

She's, oddly enough, one of the most controversial stars on the planet.
But she's also one of the biggest. And she's a THG favorite for all her charity work and her healthy perspective on what's important.
Therefore, we're proud to wish Angelina Jolie a very happy 36th birthday. In honor of the occasion, we also wish her a preemptive congratulations on a possibly impending wedding and we encourage readers to chime in with their birthday messages.
Enjoy the following montage of this A-lister, highlighted below by ridiculous tabloid covers of the actress...
