Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' 'Sounds Very Familiar' To Madonna

'I certainly think she references me a lot in her work,' Queen of Pop tells ABC News.

There was a hot debate raging about 12 months ago when Lady Gaga dropped her song "Born This Way," with people questioning whether the song sounds too much like Madonna's 1980s hit "Express Yourself." As the discussion went viral, fans, critics and even Lady Gaga herself weighed in on it. Now, as Madge preps the release of her next album, M.D.N.A., and her film "W.E.," she's finally weighing in on the controversy. Madonna, known for her curt, pithy responses when asked about anyone who might take a cue or two from her playbook, sat down with ABC News recently and had some choice words for pop's latest princess. "I certainly think she references me a lot in her work. And sometimes I think it's amusing and flattering and well-done," she explained of her onetime "Saturday Night Live" co-star. "When I heard ['Born This Way'] on the radio ... I said, 'that sounds very familiar' ... It felt reductive."

When asked if "reductive" was good or bad, Madonna replied, "Look it up." The Queen of Pop did call Gaga "a very talented artist" and explained that she thinks that she's making a "statement about taking something that was in the Zeitgeist, you know, 20 years ago and turning it inside out and reinterpreting it." Madonna also addressed her apparent penchant for kissing female pop stars. She recently made headlines when her "Gimme All Your Luvin" cohort Nicki Minaj tweeted that Madge had kissed her on the set of her video. In true Madonna fashion, she brushed it off, saying, "It was her birthday. I gave her a birthday kiss. No tongue!" Of course, Nicki is not the first pop star Madonna has locked lips with. Back in 2003, Madge shared kisses on the VMA stage with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. "Nice moment, good kisser. Cool," she remarked of Spears. When asked if she would kiss Spears again, she replied, "No, I already did it. I don't like to repeat myself." For those who may have missed the "Nightline" interview on Thursday, it will air on Friday night (January 13) on "20/20."

Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore: Behind the Divorce

Ashton Kutcher cheated on Demi Moore with a 22-year old in San Diego named Sara Leal. Case closed, right? This explains why the actress filed for divorce from her husband of six years last week.

Not exactly, friends say.

Ashton and Demi People Cover

In the latest issue of People, an insider says Kutcher and Moore's marriage "[had] been deteriorating for a long time. Ashton was ready to end it, [but] he wanted to wait for Demi to actually do it. He loved her but couldn't live with her.

Among the issues that reportedly plagued the couple? Their age difference, his promiscuity and her insecurities.

One friend of the actor's goes as far as to say "they were fed up with each other," adding: "If anyone was uncomfortable with the age difference, it was Demi, not Ashton. She drove him crazy after a while with questions and doubts."

Pick up the latest issue of People for a lot more on this split.

Justin Bieber's 'Santa Claus' Joins Classic Cartoon Clips

JB follows in the tradition of A-ha, Kanye West, Paula Abdul and others with animated videos.

Justin Bieber is not only going steampunk for a version of his "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" video; he's also getting animated.

In the new clip, Bieber hangs with Kris Claus and Topper the Penguin as they go around with various woodland creatures and have some fun holiday-themed shenanigans. But Bieber is hardly the first pop performer to go the cartoon route for a music video. In fact, he is the latest in a string of animated clips that date as far back as the Beatles and Pink Floyd. Let's take a look at some classic cartoon clips:

A-ha, "Take On Me"
The true gold standard of animated videos, this video, released back in 1985, snagged six VMAs and broke new ground in the medium. The video used a technique called rotoscoped animation, which allows visual effects to be animated over actual footage. It also seamed together an animated world and a real one, in which a man and woman from the two different worlds pursue one another romantically.

Michael Jackson, "Leave Me Alone"
Perhaps the most aggressive of the examples so far, the video, which dropped in 1989, has Jackson addressing the tabloid rumors of the day, as he rides along in an amusement-park setting. The idea of addressing rumors in videos was later adapted by everyone from Kelly Clarkson and Rihanna to No Doubt.

Paula Abdul, "Opposites Attract"
In 1989, Paula Abdul hooked up with MC Skat Kat for a video that was inspired by the classic Gene Kelly flick "Anchors Aweigh," in which he dances with Jerry Mouse. Animated by the Disney team, the video later won a Grammy for the "X Factor" mentor.

Britney Spears, "Break the Ice"
In 2008, Spears went anime in her clip from the Blackout album. The video's femme fatale is based on Brit's character in the "Toxic" video: a sexy, mysterious woman who lives fast and loose. It was Spears' idea to create an animated video.

Kanye West, "Heartless"
In 2008, a down-and-out animated Yeezy hooked up with Hype Williams. Much like A-ha's clip, it used rotoscoping, allowing West to be depressed in a whole new medium. It's the first time Williams created a cartoon clip.

As for Bieber's song, it's featured on his chart-topping holiday album, Under the Mistletoe, which features a number of guests, including Mariah Carey, Boyz II Men, the Band Perry, Usher and Busta Rhymes. A version of the "Santa Claus" video will play before screenings of "Arthur Christmas: The Movie," which opens November 23.

Conrad Murray Verdict 'Very Fair,' Expert Says

'There was so much overwhelming evidence of guilt that the defense didn't really have much of a chance,' Mike Cavalluzzi tells MTV News.

The nearly six-week involuntary manslaughter trial against former Michael Jackson doctor Conrad Murray ended Monday afternoon (November 7) with a guilty verdict. Judge Pastor announced that Murray would be taken immediately into custody and held without bail until his sentencing hearing, scheduled for November 29.

Moments after the verdict was read, MTV News spoke with Los Angeles-based criminal defense attorney Mike Cavalluzzi for his expert opinion regarding Murray's conviction on one felony count of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Michael Jackson.

"I'm not at all surprised by the verdict," said Cavalluzzi, who is not associated with this case. "I think the prosecution did an excellent job of laying out their case, and I think that there was so much overwhelming evidence of guilt that the defense didn't really have much of a chance. This is a very fair verdict, mainly because it isn't a verdict that calls for any intent or any malice on the part of Dr. Murray. This is about criminal negligence, gross negligence on his part, and I think it's a fair verdict."

Cavalluzzi also wasn't surprised by the amount of time — nine hours — it took the jury to reach their decision. "This is about how long one would think it would take given the amount of evidence the jury had to go through," he said. "It seems to me that perhaps the jury was a little bit media savvy in coming down with their verdict the end of a Monday morning so it would be announced early Monday afternoon. It allows them to reach the full week of the news cycle and hit all the major magazines. So it seems to me like someone on that jury knew about Us [Weekly] magazine."

Looking ahead, Cavalluzzi said more jail time isn't necessarily in Murray's future after the November 29 sentencing.

"It's a little bit early to tell what a fair sentence would be for Dr. Murray now. That's the most difficult part of the process for Judge Pastor, in which he will have to seriously consider all of the mitigating factors which would lean toward Dr. Murray not doing any jail time and all of the aggravating factors that would lead toward him going to state prison," he said. "It seems to me, at first blush, that any jail time wouldn't be appropriate in this case given the fact that Dr. Murray has no criminal record and there truly was no malice, no intent to actually harm Michael Jackson at all. What he was really doing was succumbing to the wishes of a patient, and unfortunately, that patient was not a person whose wishes should have been succumbed to."

MTV News will be covering the Conrad Murray case live. Go to MTVNews.com for breaking news, reactions and analysis from Los Angeles or tune to MTV for the latest updates.

Celebrate the life and legacy of Michael Jackson tonight at 9 p.m ET/PT when VH1 presents the World Broadcast premiere of "Michael Jackson's This Is It."
